The Empty Hearse Review (spoiler alert), Robocop, and the Lego Movie!

This week I've actually got a few things to discuss.  First and foremost:
Sherlock is BACK!

I was finally able to watch the first episode of series 3 The Empty Hearse this last sunday (the 19th) since I wasn't able to catch it on the 1st.  As always Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss did a tremendous job of giving us exactly what we weren't expecting but was in no way a let down.  But as I'm sure every other theorist fan of the show out there is saying right now: "You still didn't tell us for sure how he did it!"

While a lot of people are just going with Sherlock's explanation that he gives to Anderson in the end, I have reason to doubt that is what really happened.  Why?  For several good reasons.

1.  I don't think Moriarty would really go out and find a Sherlock look-a-like and then leave behind a body that Sherlock could have possibly found and used some.  (They're both genius's and could see each others moves twenty steps ahead like chess masters).  It would have been a whole lot easier for Moriarty to have someone wear a mask and dress up like Sherlock and then get rid of it later.

2. Even if Moriarty did find someone that looked like Sherlock why did Molly have to throw the dead body out the window, only to re-replace Sherlock with his real self?

Sure it would have come in handy to have a look-a-like corpse in the morgue but why throw it out the window?

3. In order to block off the entire street don't you need permission?  Don't the police come along and set up barriers, like for parades and stuff?  Wouldn't Anderson have heard about this being on the police force and after researching this for two years?  And what about John in his taxi?  How did they get through if the street was closed?  Even if the driver was in on it there would have been some kind of physical barrier keeping the rest of the traffic out, how would John not have noticed?

Of course the writers perfectly anticipated this, and put my reaction in the show:

But this just adds to the story.  I think it was brilliantly written.  Even then there is still some credibility to Sherlock's story but there's just this hint that he might not actually be telling the whole truth.  I can't wait for the next two episodes and then series 4.  I can only hope the fourth season comes out sooner than the last one.  And I would actually like it if series three ended with just as dramatic an ending as the last two have, as much as we Sherlockians complain about the cliff hangars it's just one more thing to keep us hooked and looking forward to the next season.  Keep up the good work Steven and Mark.

And in other news...

While waiting for the new season of Sherlock to come out I stayed away from Facebook, Pinterest, and was very careful of what I searched for on YouTube, to avoid spoilers.  Which is probably why I only just found out about a the Robocop remake that's coming out this February.  In case you have never heard of Robocop it started out as a movie made in 1987, the story is set in a future Detroit Michigan.  After police officer Alex Murphy is killed in the line of duty he's revived and is given a robot body (because of the damage done) thus turning him into a super-cop.  Since then it's had a few sequels and a tv show... and now a remake...

Roll the trailers!

There has already been a lot of talk about this and whether movie makers are capable of re-creating this classic without ruining it.  I honestly have no idea if it's going to be just as good as the old show, better, or a stinking pile of crap, so I will probably be at the theaters February 12th to find out.

And then there is the Lego Movie.  I have loved Legos since forever and even in my twenties still by Lego sets because the fun never wears off.  The Lego company has made several movies and TV shows before based on some of the various themes,

from Lego City,

to Star Wars,

to, this, random mini figure:

And so on including: Batman, Hero Factory, Ninjago, etc.

But I think this is by far their best movie idea yet:

Why not have a movie just about Legos, where the bricks are actually Lego bricks that can be used to make anything you can think of?  And based on the commercials the mini figs only move like the actual toys do.  A lot of you Lego fans know what I'm talking about, where you see pictures and things where a minifigures limbs are bent like this:
But as you'll see in the trailers this movie will be a little more accurate in this area, and in fact even make a joke of it when Emmet attempts jumping jacks.  You'll see what I mean.

Unless something different comes up for next week I'll be talking about more up coming movies for 2014 and (hopefully) Sherlock episode #2.
